The October 16 selection deadline for the 2015 IMMAF European Open Championships is fast approaching.
This past weekend a number of nations held their final tryouts - selectors from Britain, France and Finland have now seen the best amateurs that their countries have to offer.
Former UFC fighter and British welterweight John Maguire hinted on Twitter that the competition was tough at last months tryouts in Wales.
“Finally home after a long day of getting punched in the face by the UK team tryouts in Wales for the @IMMAFed European Open Championships.”
Applicants from the UK will be informed of their fate on Sunday.
While Maguire and most other hopefuls have done all the hard work there are a few competitors that are leaving it late to stake their claim.
The Irish team trials will be held this Sunday at Straight Blast Gym, Dublin - the home gym of interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
The Republic of Ireland team won two medals at this years World Championships in Las Vegas and the rapid growth of MMA in the Emerald Isle bodes well for next months competition.
The 2015 IMMAF European Open Championships will take place in Birmingham between the 19-22 of November and will be broadcast on UFC Fight Pass.
